The 2016 Oscar Nominations Are In & Here's Who's Vying For A Golden Statue
The Golden Globes have come and gone, which means the Academy Awards are quickly approaching. The full list of 2016 Oscar nominees were announced Thursday morning during a press conference at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. Directors Guillermo del Toro and two-time Best Director Oscar winner Ang Lee presented the nominations alongside Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs and eternal heartthrob John Krasinski (seriously, if he doesn't motivate you to get out of bed, what will?).
The Oscars honor the best in film, with 24 categories that acknowledge work both in front of and behind the camera. The Oscars will air Feb. 28, 2016 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC. Chris Rock will take on the hosting duties, marking the second time the comedian has hosted the ceremony.
This was an exceptional year for film, especially when it came to movies that tackled more controversial issues. Both Carol and The Danish Girl offered insight into the struggles that have long plagued members of LGBT and trans communities. Spotlight took a closer look at the 2001 molestation allegations against the Catholic church, and Room examined post-traumatic stress disorder from the perspective of a mother and child. There’s no doubt that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has a difficult task ahead of itself.
So who has the chance to take home the golden status? Here is the full list of the 2016 Oscar nominees:
