12 Easy, Last Minute Zodiac Halloween Costumes For Each Sign

by Olivia Youngs

With Halloween right around the corner, you've either had your costume planned since the day after Halloween of last year, or you're scrambling a week before your Halloween party to come up with a costume you actually want to wear. But what if you let your astrological sign decide your costume for you? Going with a last minute Zodiac Halloween costume means that nature does all of the work in helping you decide who to pick. All you've got to do is round up the supplies.

Now, you're probably questioning my logic on this one because, there's no way in heck that I know all of these character's signs. And you'd be right — because I don't. I do, however, know the corresponding personality traits with each sign and chose characters accordingly. Each of these costume muses, be they movie characters, historical figures, or something else, exhibit key traits of each zodiac sign.

Whether you're a daily horoscope reader or you just really, really need some costume inspiration, scrolling to your sign and going with the listed character will take the decision off of your plate and give you a costume you'll actually have fun recreating. You might not be able to let the stars decide much else for your life, but your costume for Halloween? No problem.

1Capricorn: Tiana

Capricorns (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19) are characteristically practical, prudent, and ambitious. They have big dreams and take actionable steps to make them come true. For your costume this year, choose someone who had to work hard for her goals, like Tiana from Disney's "Princess and the Frog."

To make Tiana's princess dress from scratch, you'll need a gold tiara ($9, Walmart), and a green slip dress ($20, ASOS) layered over a longer cream colored slip dress ($12, Sears). For her waitress outfit, a yellow button-up collared dress ($16, Milanoo) with a white apron ($4, Open Tip) will do the trick.

2Aquarius: Frida Kahlo

Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18) is known for its humanitarian spirit and artistic abilities. Those under this sign are often found pushing the envelope and developing new ways of doing things. What better example of each of those traits than Frida Kahlo herself?

Her costume is colorful, beautiful, and surprisingly easy to replicate. All you need is a flower crown ($13, Etsy), a white crop top or tee ($15, Milanoo), a floral maxi skirt ($40, American Eagle), and a colorful scarf ($22, Etsy) to drape around your shoulders. Don't forget to etch in a uni-brow with eyeliner to complete the look.

3Pisces: Marilyn Monroe

Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 20) are sensitive, creative, a bit on the wild side, and sympathetic. Marilyn Monroe was all of these things and, it turns out, is an iconic muse for Halloween.

All you need is a white, flowy dress ($30, JC Penny), some white heels ($21, Call It Spring), a curly blonde wig ($15, Target) — unless you're blessed with Monroe-esque curls already — and of course, bright red lipstick.

4Aries: Rosie The Riveter

Aries (March 21-April 19) are fiercely independent, adventurous, and unafraid of blazing trails. They're confident and often considered dare devils. Rosie the Riveter is an iconic feminist, and who better to represent your self-confidence?

Her look is simple to recreate. Grab a chambray button up shirt ($25, American Eagle) and roll it up to your biceps. Throw on your favorite pair of jeans ($10, H&M) and pull your hair up with a red bandanna ($14, Levi's). Done and done.

5Taurus: Katniss Everdeen

Those under the Taurus sign (April 20-May 20) are reliable, leading, warm, and determined. They can also be possessive and very driven. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games is a perfect example of a leader who possessed all of the qualities of a Taurus. Plus, her costume is so bad ass.

To dress like Katniss, wear a black tee ($6, H&M), with a black zip up jacket ($14, Rose Gal) over the top. On the bottom wear army green jeans ($9, H&M) and hiking boots ($55, DSW). Don't forget your dutch braid, bow and arrow ($10, Walmart) and, of course, the Mocking Jay pin ($4, Etsy).

6Gemini: Harley Quinn

Geminis (May 21 - June 20) are socialites who have great energy and a bubbly personality. However, they're also a bit cunning and divisive when they need to be. Just like Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad.

You can be as risque as you'd like for this costume, but the basics are her baseball style tee ($10, Discount Mugs) with "Daddy's Lil Monster" across the front (watch this tutorial to learn how to make it yourself), fishnet leggings ($7, Forever 21) with shorts over the top ($18, Forever 21) or black skinny jeans ($20, H&M). You can either dye your own hair (with that Gemini wild streak of yours), or buy a Harley Quinn wig ($25, Spirit Halloween).

7Cancer: Molly Weasley

Cancers (June 21 - July 22) are known for being protective, loving, overly emotional, and intuitive. Harry Potter's Molly Weasley is all of these things and more.

Molly's style is quirky, to put it lightly, so don't be afraid of pattern mixing and grabbing your costume entirely from a thrift store. You'll need a dark, partnered dress ($29, Simply Be), a cardigan or sweater ($20, Lands End), tights ($10, Old Navy), an apron ($4, JoAnns), and oxfords ($40, ASOS). If you can find a messy red wig, even better.

8Leo: Merida from 'Brave'

Leos (July 23 - Aug. 22) are known for their courage, and love of taking charge. Merida from Brave is the literal embodiment of those traits.

To dress as the Scottish lass, you'll need a long, green velvet dress ($19, Rose Wholesale), a brown belt ($17, H&M), boots ($40, JC Penny), a costume bow and arrow ($7, Spirit Halloween), and a curly red wig ($28, Cosplay Sky).

9Virgo: Hermione Granger

Virgos (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22) are a bit shy, and incredibly hard working. They're intellectual, reliable, and tend to be over achievers. Enter Hermione Granger.

Think layers with this costume. Start with a basic white button up shirt ($17, Kohls), add a grey cardigan ($30, Old Navy) and top it off with a long black jacket or coat ($88, Torrid). Wear black pants ($13, H&M) and don't forget your Gryffindor tie ($10, Party City).

10Libra: Mary Poppins

Libras (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22) are diplomatic, proper, charming, and sociable, much like Marry Poppins herself.

You'll need your most proper attire for this costume: a white button up shirt ($12, Ali Express), ideally without a collar, a grey blazer ($17, Trends Gal), a black skirt ($27, She In), and a pair of flats ($13, H&M). Top off the look with a red bow tie ($6, Tie Mart), a boater hat ($30, Eloquii) and an umbrella ($7, Walmart).

11Scorpio: Alex Vause from OITNB

Scorpios (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21) are powerful and passionate, they have magnetic personalities and can often get jealous and act out of resent, like Orange Is The New Black's Alex Vause.

To transform yourself into prison's most bad ass brunette, you'll need some tan scrubs ($9, Scrubs and Beyond), a white tee ($9, H&M), a pair of black glasses ($5, Eye Buy Direct), a black wig ($10, Rose Gal), and (if you want to be super thorough) a temporary rose tattoo ($1, UsImprints) for your arm.

12Sagittarius: Princess Leia

Those under the Sagittarius sign (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) are loyal, freedom loving, optimistic, and intellectual. Whether you're a Star Wars fan or not, Princess Leia is the perfect choice.

To make her outfit, you'll need a white, loose dress ($64, Torrid), a silver belt ($30, JC Penny), a fake gun ($14, Ebay), and her iconic braids, either as a wig ($13, Party City) or with your own hair.
