'Jane The Virgin' Delivered A Shocking Twist

by Zakiya Jamal

The second season of Jane the Virgin ended with fans wondering if Michael would die, however when Season 3 began it turned out he was going to be just fine. Or so the show led us to believe. So is Michael really dead on Jane the Virgin? As much as I wish it weren't true, Michael actually passed away and now Jane and I are both heartbroken.

The running theme of "Chapter Fifty-Four" was memories, and the episode began with a cute flashback of a young Michael dressed up as a police officer for Halloween. As the narrator and Jane pointed out, one's memories aren't that reliable and people tend to focus on the emotions they felt during that moment, not what actually happened. Thus, throughout the episode the narrator pointed out specific memories that both Jane and Michael shared, particularly when they went to a carnival together.

The night before Michael took his LSAT, the couple decided to revisit the carnival, giving viewers cute flashbacks between the first time they'd went and their visit in the present. The entire carnival montage was incredible cute and now in hindsight, seems like a nice tribute to Jane and Michael's relationship before their marriage came to a tragic end.

The next day, Michael was ready to leave to take his LSAT when Jane wished him what would ultimately be their final goodbye. "Michael, I am so proud of you," she said before he went to go take his exam. And that's when the narrator uttered the most ominous words every #TeamMichael had ever heard. "And friends it should be noted that Jane would play this moment over and over until it became a memory and therefore unreliable," he said.

Immediately I had to ask myself what did this mean? Why does she replay this moment, of all moments, over and over again. Less than 10 minutes later, I got my answer when, after finishing his LSAT, Michael dropped dead and then Jane got the worst call of her life that had her falling to her knees in tears.

Unfortunately, the narrator confirmed this moment wasn't actually dream, but in fact reality when he said, "And friends I did say Michael would love Jane until his dying breath." And just like that, he was gone.

Alas, it appears Michael's death is very real, and truthfully, I don't know how the fans (and most importantly, Jane), will be able to move on from this. Thankfully, we only have to wait a week to find out.
