There is nothing more empowering than a woman owning her body and letting the world know that she isn't afraid. There is also nothing more powerful than a working mother, working hard to support her family and her children. Combining the two results in one epic and beautiful combination — captured by Texas photographer, Tara Ruby. The results are breathtaking, to say the least and proves that this photographer captured working moms perfectly.
The photographs were taken by Ruby, a photographer who is based in El Paso, Texas. Ruby is no stranger to photographing both mothers and their children; her Facebook page and portfolio is filled with plenty of these shots to prove it. Ruby does many newborn photoshoots, as well as maternity and family photoshoots and so these breastfeeding shots fit perfectly into her repertoire.
Ruby has taken 10 photos so far of breastfeeding moms in their "professional uniforms" and the professions range from all over. From a breastfeeding doctor, to a firefighter, to a nurse, to even a show girl — Ruby captures a wide variety of moms in drastically different uniforms but the main message stays the same — these women work hard and they're pretty bad ass moms.
In the caption of the photo of the showgirl, Ruby says that she took the photo of the breastfeeding mom on Freemont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada — a popular street in Downtown Las Vegas. The photo pictures the mom breastfeeding her son, dressed up like Elvis. SO cute and so glamorous.
Ruby told Cosmopolitan.com that she hopes the photographs will inspire other moms to keep up their hard work in both uniforms — as a mom and at their own jobs. "You can work a full-time job and breastfeed and do both equally well," Ruby said. "If this is supporting someone out there, let's do it."
The result is stunning and captures so many emotions about motherhood and what it truly means to provide and support in just one photograph and the series of photographs altogether.
Ruby had also made news headlines in September, when a photo of 10 active duty mothers breastfeeding their children in uniform went viral. The photo drew praise for "normalizing breastfeeding within the hyper-masculine context of the military," according to CNN. Ruby, a former service member in the Air Force, saw the photo go viral, being shared more than 4,000 times within 24 hours of posting it on her page.
"...Sometimes you hit a point in your military career where you have to choose between being a soldier and a mother, and a photo like this helps mothers so they don't have to choose," Ruby said to CNN.
Beautifully said and captured, by a photographer who truly knows how to empower women and show truly what it means to be a working mother.
