This Mom Made A Timelapse Video To Show Her Partner What Her Day *Really* Looks Like

by Jen McGuire

It's the question literally nobody on this planet should ever ask a stay-at-home mom; so, what did you do all day? I mean, I guess it's not the question so much as it is the implication behind the question. The subtle insinuation that probably you hung out and relaxed all day. This question is especially vexing if it happens to come from the partner of said stay-at-home mom. So, lovely SAHMs of the internet, the next time your partner wonders what in the world you possibly could have done all day, show them this timelapse video by a stay-at-home mom. Because it is definitely an eye-opener for those who haven't been there.

Gemma Chalmers had just struggled through a frustrating weekend with her partner. As she wrote on Facebook on Wednesday:

All weekend my lovely partner has been moaning that I do nothing all day, so I thought I’d show him a full day.

Boy, was he in for a treat. Chalmers shared her 12-hour day in eight minutes, and I'm going to recommend that you take a short breather after watching the eight-minute-long video because you're going to need a nap. Unless, of course, you're a SAHM. Then you're going to be like, same.

So here's the sad part; Chalmers admitted on Facebook that the video missed a significant chunk of the action with her 2-year-old son Kayle:

Before I even started this video I had two smashed glasses to clean up as the little man thought it be funny to throw then [sic] off the kitchen unit. I emptied the dishwasher, gave the little man breakfast, managed to get a quick shower (with the little man coming and checking on me throughout) changed his bum and got dressed myself.

From there, things progressed as they do when you live in a house with a toddler. She ran up and down the stairs, cleaning up toys and other general household items. She took her son to a playgroup, and then tried to get Kayle to lie down for his nap. That took a few tries, but eventually she managed to finesse him.

It should be time for her to chill out now, right? Catch up on a little Keeping Up With The Kardashians and eat a luxurious lunch?

Nope. She cleaned up some more, did a bunch of laundry, and then quickly tried to wrap Christmas presents while the toddler slept.

That only brings us to 1 o'clock in the afternoon. The rest of her day was spent, as she wrote on Facebook:

I've been a mummy all day...Also a cleaner, a driver, a cook, a storyteller, a nurse, a playmate, a toddler wrestling coach, a teacher, an art Director, a potty trainer, a Champion tickler, a wardrobe stylist, a personal dresser, a laundry operator, a personal shopper, and many more.

And other SAHMs were like:

Several moms took to Facebook to share their appreciation of Chalmers' video.

"Brilliant! I’m more exhausted on my 'day off' than I am when I’m at work! Btw- loved nap time!" one viewer commented.

Another wrote, "I remember when I went on maternity I was told 'enjoy your holiday'...if looks could have killed! I miss work."

As Chalmers, and other SAHMs, know, being home with kids all day is no walk in the park. Even when you are literally walking in the park; it's hard work. A 2014 PEW Research analyses found that SAHMs spend, on average, seven more hours per week on child care than their working counterparts. They also spend nine more hours per week on household chores than working mothers. These women deserve credit for their struggle, not smug questions about what they're "doing" all day.

So the next time someone asks you what you're doing all day or, even worse, tells you to enjoy your "time off," be sure to pull up Chalmers' video for them.

Or better yet... maybe even make your own.
