Videos Of Auli'i Cravalho Singing Are Wonderful

by Keiko Zoll

Ever since Disney released its latest animated musical film Moana, fans have been going nuts for the latest Disney princess, voiced by 16-year-old Hawaiian native Auli'i Cravalho. Like her character's powerful ballad, "How Far I'll Go," there really is no telling just how far Cravalho will go with her musical career, but if the success of Moana is any indication, she has a promising future ahead. Videos of Auli'i Cravalho singing are actually pretty hard to find in the first place, but when you do find them, they are awesome.

On Tuesday, Cravalho surprised 4-year-old fan Claire Ryann Crosby and her father Dave on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Crosby's video of their "How Far I'll Go" daddy-daughter duet has gone viral and of course DeGeneres set the trio up for an unforgettable moment on her talk show. Crosby got to sing her favorite song with the voice of Moana singing right alongside her, as her dad played the guitar. It was epic levels of cute.

When Cravalho was cast as Disney's first Polynesian princess, she was chosen from hundreds of girls who auditioned in open casting calls. Only 14 years old at the time of her casting, Cravalho has spent the last two years recording and promoting Moana, so she doesn't have much of a video repertoire online. That said, there are a handful of videos of Cravalho singing out there that are totally worth watching.

Her First Oscars Performance

Moana was nominated for two Oscars this year: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. The film would lose to Disney's other big animated feature of 2016, Zootopia, and La La Land's "City of Stars," respectively. But that didn't stop Cravalho's amazing Moana performance at the Oscars this year.

Singing A Traditional Singapore Folk Song

While at an interview for 987's The Bro Code, her interviewers caught Cravalho by surprise and asked her to sing a traditional Singapore folk song, "Dayung Sampan" — which of course, she nails. Her rendition starts at 1:16 in the video above.

More Singing With Kids

As if singing with a little girl on The Ellen Show wasn't adorable enough, Cravalho shared a short candid video last month on her Twitter account, singing "How Far I'll Go" with two little girls.

Her High School Music Video School Project

This is probably the rarest and coolest video I could find of Cravalho singing. Published on YouTube in February of 2013, Cravalho would have only been 12 years old at the time. It's a video of an original song, "Take Me Back," in which Cravalho provides vocals. It's a sweet song with a simple ukelele backing, played presumably by another school mate. Definitely a very "before they were stars" moment.

Given than Cravalho has just landed a TV pilot from NBC, here's hoping we have plenty more videos of Cravalho to come.
