'Scandal' Is Coming To An End

by Chrissy Bobic

As Shonda Rhimes' second longest-running TV series, Scandal has been a whirlwind of excitement, adventure, and craziness that fans have come to love during TGIT. But with the rumors floating around about the series coming to an end, fans have no doubt been asking, will Scandal be renewed for Season 7? Luckily, we can all thank Rhimes (who just dominates ABC on Thursday nights), because there will indeed be a Season 7 of Scandal.

But the bad news, dear gladiators, is that the woman in charge herself confirmed with a statement that Season 7 will be the last. As in, there's exactly one more season left to wrap up the stories of Olivia, Huck, Quinn, and everyone else who has worn a white hat on the show. The rumor about Season 7 being the last has been swirling around for a while now, but since Rhimes has confirmed it, it's probably time to start speculating on how the heck they're going to end the show.

According to TVLine, ABC president Channing Dungey confirmed in a recent conference call that Scandal's final season would be Season 7 and that the decision came about in order to be able to end the series on a high note rather than be forced to cancel it before anything could be wrapped up for the characters. "I always prefer to end a show when it’s creatively on top as opposed to letting things dribble out," Dungey said. "Fans of Scandal are going to want the story to end in the way that Shonda intends it to. It’s a decision she felt really good about and we support wholeheartedly."

Rhimes said in her statement that they're going to use the final season to "go all out," and being given the chance to choose her own ending with enough time to really plan it out means that the final season of Scandal will probably be pretty epic.

"We are going to handle the end the way we like to handle the important things in our Scandal family: all together, white hats on, gladiators running full speed over a cliff," Rhimes said. And honestly, do fans expect anything less?

Though Season 6 has been full of a bunch of ups and downs and may not have found its footing like seasons before it, Rhimes still managed to bring out the best and worst in her characters that kept viewers hanging on to watch it all play out. And for the end of Season 7 of Scandal, fans should probably expect more of the same insanity that has made the show so enjoyable over the years.
