What Does Joseph Duggar Do? The 'Counting On' Star Works For His Family

by Michelle Stein

Since Joseph Duggar is the most recently married of his 18 siblings, fans of Counting On are undoubtedly curious about his new life. Joseph, 23, exchanged vows with Kendra Caldwell, 19, on Sept. 8 of this year. Although the pair hasn't even been married for three months, the pregnancy watch is already on. (Because it's a Duggar we're talking about, a quick pregnancy turnaround isn't entirely out of the question. But still!) Aside from an ongoing bump watch, fans of the TLC series are likely curious about other aspects of the newlyweds' life together, such as: What does Joseph Duggar do? Like many of his siblings before him, the Counting On star works for the family's business.

It seemed as if Joseph initially wanted to pursue another career path; however, Michelle and Jim Bob's seventh child ultimately ended up back home, reports Inquisitr.com. Still, Joe was actually the first of the 19 Duggar kids to go away to a physical institution. Instead of staying at home and taking online classes through the Christian CollegePlus program, he decided to attend Crown Bible College in Powell, Tennessee, for one year, Inquisitr reports. Although it isn't clear if he dropped out or earned some sort of certificate, Joseph at least seemed like a trailblazer by his family's standards.

According to the Crown College catalogue, the school offers a one-year program during which students earn the "Foundation for Christian Life Certificate." (Obviously, this isn't an actual degree, or anything.) If Joseph had been enrolled in this one-year program, a few of the classes he would have taken include: Introduction to Missions, Personal Evangelism, Living the Christian Life, Bible Geography and Creation Science. “The Foundation for Christian Life certificate program may be completed in two semesters. It includes key Bible classes and other courses designed to give students a foundation of Bible knowledge and training,” the program's description says. It continues:

Students who complete the Foundation for Christian Life certificate program will be able to: • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Scriptures and of Bible doctrine • Apply basic principles of interpretation in Bible study • Employ biblical methods of evangelism & discipleship within local church ministries.

Regardless of what he might have studied, or if he even completed a program, Joseph's big return to the Duggar family compound in Arkansas was announced in January 2016. This tidbit of info was slipped into a birthday tribute on the Duggar Family Official Facebook page. "21 years ago on a cold January day God gave us a sweet mellow baby boy, named Joseph, to warm our hearts and bring great joy to our family with his bright smile," the Duggars wrote on his special day. They continued:

Joseph just completed a year at Crown Bible College and is now back working with the Duggar family business doing construction. He now plans to acquire his real estate license and his CDL license.

The Duggar Family Blog went into more detail about Joseph's future plans, explaining that the then-21-year-old was planning to follow in his parents' footsteps, as well as the footsteps of some of his older siblings. "In addition to driving the Duggars' bus, a CDL will allow Joseph to operate rigs, such as dump trucks and rollbacks. He will use his certifications to work in the Duggar family business, which is in its 5th generation," the blog post explains.

As often highlighted in 19 Kids and Counting, Jim Bob Duggar — with the help of his adult children and sometimes their spouses — purchases property, remodels it, and then either rents it out or resells it, according to the blog post. The family members also work to maintain existing residential rental and commercial properties, according to the Duggar Family Blog. (They actually built their own home way back in the day during Raising 16 Children and 16 Children and Moving In.) Since they've practically grown up learning skills like construction, electrical work, plumbing and interior design, Joesph definitely has the practical experience!

To me, it sounds as if Joseph explored a passion of his and then decided he was best suited for the family real estate business. Which is completely respectable. Based on how many Duggar children there are — and how many grandchildren are rapidly being added each year — this family will soon have a real estate mega empire. But then again, maybe that was their plan all along.
