May finales are underway, which means it's time to say hello to summer and goodbye to some of your favorite regularly scheduled TV programs. Next up on The CW docket is the freshman hit series Riverdale, which thankfull has already been renewed for a second season, meaning its future is secure. But how long will fans be forced to part ways with Archie & Co.? When does Riverdale return for Season 2? These beloved characters shouldn't be gone for too long. Hopefully.
As I'm sure many of you have guessed by now, it's far too early to know for sure when Riverdale will come back into our lives. But the hiatus may not be for as long as you may initial suspect. The series premiered its first season back in January, which could mean viewers will have to wait until January 2018 to see more Riverdale antics. However, if you're a glass-half-full type of person, you could speculate that — due to the show's popularity and well-received reviews — that it could end up returning much sooner than that. Filming could even begin over the summer, leaving them able to debut a sophomore season sometime in the fall, which is only a couple of months away and means more Jughead goodness ASAP.
Granted, it's important to keep in mind that this is pure speculation and even wishful thinking on my part. No Season 2 premiere date has been announced as of yet and may not happen for quite some time still. All I'm saying is that we mustn't give up hope completely that this torturous hiatus could be brief. In the meantime, though, there's still plenty to look forward to with the Season 1 finale.
Jason Blossom's killer may have been revealed, but from the looks of the finale promo "The Sweet Hereafter" this town's troubles are far from over. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Season 1 concluded on a major cliffhanger — potentially even another death. And while that will definitely make it more difficult to part ways with this highly addictive show, it will make its return all the more sweet... whenever that may be.
Either way, though, it won't be long until you can rewatch the entire first season on Netflix. Thanks to the deal The CW has with the streaming service, the latest season of each show is available exactly eight days after the finale airs. So even if Season 2 is further away than you'd like, you can watch all your favorite Season 1 moments again and again.
