Here's Where To Get Fingerlings, Because They'll Definitely Be On Your Kid's Wishlist

by Jen McGuire

Every year, there is always a toy that has kids losing their marbles because they want it so bad. I mean, decades ago it was actual marbles that was making kids lose their marbles. In 2016 it was Hatchimals, so what will it be for 2017? Parents, go find some Fingerlings for your kids if you want their undying gratitude — or at least their gratitude for a day or so. You know how kids are.

Wondering what a Fingerling might be? It's not a delicious potato, and don't feel bad because that's what I thought it was, too. Fingerlings are tiny robot monkeys that fit on your finger. They also have mohawks, in case you were wondering. According to the Fingerlings product description on Toys "R" Us:

Fingerlings Baby Monkeys love hanging onto your finger and know when they're being touched, talked to, and even hung upside down! These perfect primate pets come to life with over 50 animations to let you know how they feel. You'll fall in love with these sweet and sometimes silly critters with their realistic monkey sounds, adorable blinking eyes and head turns, plus hands that grip and a curly hanging tail. You can swing them, pet them, hug and kiss them, plus rock them to sleep!

These new, interactive toys from WowWee have made it on to Toys "R" Us' Hot Toy List and Geoffrey's Top 20, as well as Walmart and Amazon's most wanted toys list. There are six different types of Fingerlings (Bella, Boris, Finn, Mia, Sophie, and Zoe). Each has its own personality, color, and very reasonable price tag: Fingerlings retail for around $15 each. Parents should also know that these adorable little interactive monkeys that attach themselves to your finger are also able to burp and fart. So... you know your kid is going to be even more desperate for them now.

As with most popular toys, stores are already selling out as parents take to social media in a panic. Romper reached out to Toys "R" Us to find out when the stores would be restocking its exclusive Fingerling, the popular Gigi the Unicorn, and got this response:

For shoppers looking to cross this must-have off their wish list, they should check online at Toysrus.com or with their local Toys “R” Us store often, as we will continue to receive additional Fingerlings (including our exclusive, Gigi the Unicorn) all holiday season long.

Fingerlings are sold at Walmart, Amazon, and Target, as well as Toys "R" Us. Amazon.com is also planning to roll out its own exclusive Fingerling; Rose, a pink glitter finger monkey that comes with a bonus blanket. Rose is expected to be available online by Nov. 20.

So what is it about Fingerlings that have industry insiders certain these toys will be the next big thing? Sydney Wiseman, brand manager for WowWee, explained to Business Insider that these tiny pets/toys are meant to engage kids in a way that feels right to them:

We're always looking for fun and innovative ways to teach and amuse kids with our products. Fingerlings are like having an interactive friend at your fingertips — they're impossible not to love! We have been so excited by the positive response across the UK and Canada and we can't wait to see the reaction in the U.S. It's definitely a highly anticipated launch and we're happy to have the opportunity to support a great wildlife cause along the way.

When the company launched in the United States in August, WowWee donated $1 from the purchase of every Fingerling sold in the first week to WildAid, non-profit animal conservation that aims to preserve wildlife and end illegal wildlife trade.

Fingerlings... who knew having a tiny monkey on your finger would become such a thing?
